HowTheLightGetsIn heads to London’s Hampstead Heath

Back in London this September for its first physical festival in two years, HowTheLightGetsIn is the world’s largest philosophy and music festival. Combining critical thinking and challenging debate with diverse music and vibrant culture, HowTheLightGetsIn September 2021 will celebrate days of discussion and new discoveries with an incredible line-up of music and cabaret.

Topping the line-up on 18th and 19th September at Kenwood House, Hampstead Heath, are London Afrobeat Collective, Mr Bruce, Freya Roy, Rosie Frater-Taylor, MEI & Honey Mooncie.

London Afrobeat Collective are a regular feature at major UK festivals, including Glastonbury, Bestival and Boomtown. Meanwhile, after 12 years as the wildly charismatic singer of The Correspondents, Mr Bruce is taking a significant change of direction with his new project. An expression of his love for UK dance music, Mr Bruce is delivering fresh approaches to Electro House, Garage and Jungle.

British-German multi-instrumentalist Freya Roy has been celebrated by the likes of Gilles Peterson, BBC Radio 1 and British Voguee. Someone else to look out for on the bill is 21-year-old London-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Rosie Frater-Taylor.

Elsewhere on the bill, Rosehip Teahouse began back in 2016 as the bedroom laments of Frankie Pavitt. Struggling
with identity, loss and poor mental health, bandcamp-born EP I Got Out of Bed Today was created as a means of escaping the grey every day that life had melted into.

MEI will also be gracing the stage at Kenwood House this year. Also performing will be with contemporary folk artist Emma Miller, South-West troupe Pattern Pusher, five-piece Flood for the Famine, rising indie star Soham De, East-London artist Chinwe, Bristolian dream-pop from Stay Lunar, neo-jazz singer-songwriter Honey Mooncie, Sheffield collective Oh Papa, the folk-hewn pop of Coco and the Butterfields, dark pop artist Ana De Llor and the Sequin-clad satirical weirdos Bourgeois & Maurice.

With over 100 events taking place across the weekend, September’s festival promises a weekend filled with unmissable debates, comedy, music and talks: from rapper and activist Lowkey, award winning journalist David Aaronovitch, theoretical physicist Sabine Hossenfelder, economics commentator Grace Blakeley, co-host of The Infinite Monkey Cage Robin Ince, Apologetic Eton and Oxford alumnus Ivo Graham, BBC New Comedy Award nominee Esther Manito and more.

Earlybird tickets for the full weekend are available now. Students are eligible for a 30% discount. For details and tickets head to https://howthelightgetsin.org/festivals/september
