Getting to know Modern Error

UK-based punk act Modern Error recently released their new single, A Vital Sign. We asked vocalist Zak Pinchin to tell us more:

Modern Error is … an audio and visual experience driven by the desire to make a statement through its works on how we view the state of the world.

A Vital Sign is … meant to be as if searching for an answer in love, and questioning all that love is; Feeling as if the world has changed you to now misunderstand its intention and meaning.

Home is … in some ways, home for me is much more a period of time of peace, or with people that bring me the same level of tranquillity. That could be in a house, in the studio, or on a mountain. I feel very at peace when I paint, get lost in the creation or have moments to myself – that state of bliss or mindfulness that takes me away from anything to worry about or procrastinate over. Home, to me, is a sense of letting go.

I spend too much time … overthinking and procrastinating. It wastes a lot of time when you reflect and realise half the stuff I’ve been overthinking didn’t need to be. Learning to let go of certain things is still something I am learning to further my self-progression.

I’ve never … been content with anything, and I see that in a positive light for moving forward and forever growing. I never want to recreate something I have previously achieved; I don’t want to remain in the same place, be that state of mind or physical space, and I never want to be the same person I was the year before.

It might surprise people to learn that… although I am part of the artistic direction of Modern Error, I also am a film-maker; directing music videos for bands such as Trash boat, Boston Manor, Stand Atlantic, Loathe and Holding Absence, to name a few. This gives me an extended level of fulfilment; facilitating other people’s art and vision has helped me progress my own.
