Our top ten tunes of 2022 so far

These are the songs that have been getting us going since the start of the month:

1. Alex the Astronaut – Airport

While this new single speaks to the forced separation of loved ones during the pandemic and the emotional fallout that ensues, Alex balances it with a feverish account of minor envies, including how she turned off a Phoebe Bridgers song because she was “jealous I didn’t make it”. The video features an emotional reunion too!

2 Let’s Eat Grandma – Happy New Year 

The British pop duo are gearing up to release their hotly-anticipated new album Two Ribbons, out on April 8th 2022.

3. Methyl Ethel – Proof feat. Stella Donnelly 

This new song, which features fellow WA artist and SYS fave Stella Donnelly, is lifted from the upcoming fourth album, Are You Haunted?, which will be released on 18th February.

4. Nick Ward – FUNERAL (feat. E^ST)

This new single, featuring Sydney-based talent E^ST, comes alongside news of Nick’s upcoming new EP Brand New You, out April 15th. It will be the second body of work in a planned trilogy of releases.

5. Rex Orange County – KEEP IT UP

Rex Orange County is the Gen Z singer-songwriter who went from playing music in his bedroom to playing Coachella and Glastonbury. Here’s his latest slice.

6. Lisa MitchellI Believe In Kindness  

This new single is taken from the English-born, Australia-based singer-songwriter’s upcoming long-awaited fourth studio album, which lands this April.

7. Coyle Girelli – Here Comes My Baby

This new single is a taste of the UK-born, New York-based artist’s sophomore album, Funland, out February 25th.

8. Arny Margret – akureyri 

The Icelandic singer-songwriter will drop her debut EP, intertwined, via One Little Independent Records on February 25th.

9. Alice SK – Run Away

The London artist has just dropped a video for her vintage-noir track.

10. PLANET – Information Overload

This is the title track from Sydney band’s forthcoming debut album, out March 11th, which also includes previous releases Need More, Ship Won’t Change, and Resign.
