A Swift Farewell: Five great books

Eora/Sydney based pop-punk band A Swift Farewell have dropped their latest single, Sorry. To celebrate the release, they have shared some of their favourite books with us:

During lockdown (first one) I started to read more, and if you know me. I am not a massive reader. I say that I ‘read’ but really, I read one book every 2 years. However, these are my top 5 books that I read in lockdown. I found these books very interesting and read completed them within a day or a week.

Happiest Man on Earth by Eddie Jaku

A friend at work recommended me this, and lent me his copy (big shoutout to Andrew). He didn’t tell me much, just said it is a must read, and he was right! It explores Eddie’s life living in Germany before World War II started, and how he survived as a Jewish man. There are only four books that made me cry, and they are on this list.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Sarah told me about this book and lent it to me (I hope you see a trend here), and I remember I only had it for less than 12 hours, and I was messaging Sarah about a certain part of the book, and she was so shocked at how fast I was reading it. It explores the idea, if you can look into your other lives, a ‘what if’ library.

Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton

All I can say is – Netflix is making an adaptation of this book! The way the author uses his words to describe the setting and what is happening creates a vivid visual in my mind. If Netflix does not do this justice, I will riot hahah.

Honeybee by Craig Silvey

Right after ‘Boy Swallows Universe’ I read this based on my friend’s recommendation. I honestly just bought it based on the fact it is an LGBTQ+ book without know what it is. I did not expect to be on a rollercoaster of emotions, and it literally bought me to tears.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

I did this random trend and got one book out of it. After completing this book, it gave me a life realisation that we are on our own journey, and no one has the same journey as you. Whether you follow your journey, or simply let go by at the end of it -life is not going to slow down or stop for you. Which is why I am pursuing music.
