Getting to know Emilia Tarrant

Emilia Tarrant has recently dropped her new single, Best Friend Heartbreak, ahead of the release of her new EP, When It Was Chaotic, in March. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… currently up a mountain on a skiing holiday! Definitely one of my happiest places to be, I feel so free on the slopes and it is such a good time out from the hectic schedule back home. Although I’ve taken some time today to edit some social media content, catch up on emails and have a listen back to some upcoming album demos that I’ll be recording vocals for very soon. The grind never stops when you’re in the music industry!

Best Friend Heartbreak is… probably the rawest song that I’ve released to date. It took a couple years to get off my chest, and I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty sad…! It perfectly captures the pain I felt after losing a friendship and how much I miss them still. It’s not often you hear songs about friend breakups, but as such a relatable subject, there should definitely be more. I’m so proud of the lyrics and I absolutely love the production on this song – it’s so powerful and feels so ‘me’.

My upcoming new EP will be… an emotional collection of coming-of-age songs. My favourite thing about it is that each song is based on a completely individual topic– e.g. love, mental health, and friendships. I really hope that people can relate to these songs, and I’m so excited to finally release it. Coming your way on the 17th of March!

Home is… wherever my cat is! Seriously!

I spend too much time… telling myself I won’t make it if I don’t get enough views on TikTok. Even saying it back sounds silly, but it’s such a vital part of the industry nowadays, and something I’ve struggled to wrap my head around. I’m much more of a ‘sit at the piano and write all day’ kinda gal, instead of learning covers to film videos of. However, I do feel as though I am finally getting the hang of it, and definitely trying my hardest!

I’ve never… been on tour. GET ME ON TOUR! It looks so fun! I’m really hoping it’s something my band and I will be able to do after releasing my debut album later this year.

The last couple of years have been… a whirlwind. Up, down and all around. I’ve absolutely loved it, and last year was such a high; I was invited to play Glastonbury (what!?), had my first Radio 1 play (ahhhhh) and it sounds silly, but even getting verified on Instagram was such a shocking, cool moment. They all made me feel as though I wasn’t just the girl next door anymore, and that all my hard work was starting to pay off! It all still feels so surreal to be honest.

Keep up to date with Emilia on Instagram.
