Cattle Decapitation live in Sydney – photos and review

Cattle Decapitation hit up the Metro Theatre in Sydney, supported by Fallujah and Psycroptic. We were there:

From the frozen depths of Tasmania to the unseasonably warm streets of Sydney, tech death maestros Psycroptic set the pace to a sold-out Metro Theatre, that pace being bullshit fast!

With a track off every release, covering the entire catalogue, we went from Cold to Enslavement at breakneck speed, with a Frozen Gaze and a death stare from front man Jason Peppiatt into the souls of all in attendance.

Brutal, technically proficient, mosh inducing, San Francisco tech death peddlers Fallujah hit the ground running, opening with The Bitter Taste of Clarity, smashing straight into Radiant Ascension and The Void Alone.

Not letting up for a second, the Californians kept security busy as crowd surfers made their way over the barrier. No strangers to this country, the four piece hit us with everything they’ve got like a laser guided missile, closing with the incendiary Artifact.

In 2013 death grind extraordinaire’s CattleDecapitation supported Thy Art Is Murder at the Annandale Hotel, a decade later they return to lay waste to a sold out Metro Theatre. With a new record in tow, Terrasite, the Californian natives treated us to a relentless, volatile, beastial set of death metal.

Frontman Travis Ryan baptizes the front row with a hair flick of sweat and water, head banging furiously as they launch into Terrasitic Adaptation, harsh and merciless, the crowd responded with a near continual circle pit for the entirety of the set. We Eat Our Young, Dead Set On Suicide and the unforgiving Finish Them, each track faster and infinitely more ruthless in execution.

The absolutely punishing Forced Gender Reassignment and the aptly titled Pacific Grim bring us to the final salvo of the extreme, Kingdom Of Tyrants. Absolutely filthy, the packed Metro floor was a sweaty, stinky mess of metal heads. Brutally yuck.
