Getting to Know Sam Heselwood
New Zealand-born, UK-based singer-songwriter Sam Heselwood has released his new single, I Remember. We asked him to tell us about himself:
I am… 27 years old, originally from Darfield, New Zealand, which is a small-town west of Christchurch. I grew up with a very typical kiwi, outdoorsy up bringing. I have one sister, three stepbrothers, a huge extended family and an amazing partner. I love sport, hunting, fishing, diving (anything outdoors) and being around good friends.
I Remember is…the song delves into the theme of heartbreak and love. It’s crafted from a figurative perspective, portraying the scenario of my partner’s passing and me, alone in a room, lost in reverie about our shared life.
Home is… wherever family is. Wanaka, Marlborough sounds, Christchurch, Timaru, Kakanui, New Zealand.
I spend too much time… watching Harry Potter and thinking about food.
I’ve never… skydived but I’m keen to try…
It might surprise people to learn that… I played at a reasonably high level of rugby back home.
