Interview: Getting to Know COTERIE

Perth-based indie-pop quartet COTERIE have just revealed their feel-good new single, Good Morning. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

Kia Ora (G’day)… I’m Josh from a band known as Coterie. We’re 4 Māori lads living out on the west coast of Australia, winging it through a music career.

‘Good Morning’ is… all about smiling through the shit show.

Wake up everyday, taking a 7am sip of a jungle juice cocktail and embrace the sun. The key for us is to surround yourself with good people that give you a social high and keep close to whanau who help you get through life. This song is our ode to staying positive, because at the end of the day life isn’t all that crazy so we’ll keep surfing the barrel till sunrise… Good Morning.

I spend too much time… sitting on this pile of slightly-better-then-average original music just playing it live but dying to put it out. Moving forward is a gnarly feeling. West Oz has been loving the unreleased stuff so I guess, the crowd’s response can help us write/piece together the details.

I’ve never… skulled a beer from a musty shoe… that needs to change.

It might surprise people to learn that… we’re not the best band you’ve ever heard. Shocking ay. We’re also 4 brothers, from the same parents and one of our mates on drums. We love Something You Said!
