Getting to Know SOULSLEEP
Eora/Sydney-based alt-rock band SOULSLEEP have just released their debut single, Glass Heart. We asked them to tell us about themselves:
We are… SOULSLEEP. We’re an alternative rock four-piece who like exploring many genres and blending them into our sound. We combine potent riffs, huge sing-along choruses, and catchy melodies with blends of rap vocal influences and EDM.
‘Glass Heart’ is… our song that is written about experiencing depression for the first time. When the world declared a pandemic, there was no going to see family or friends or playing gigs for that dopamine hit that every musician craves. Hopefully, this song finds its way to others who have also felt like this and touches their hearts and resonates with their emotions, as it did with ours. This song is like a window into one’s soul, conveying deep emotions from personal experiences.
Home is… the place where we feel comfortable, confident, happy and safe; In the places you love, with the people you love or doing the things you love doing.
I spend too much time… not writing enough music. Although it’s due to doing something else that I love, being a working father and raising a young family, I try to work on music as much as possible in the small amount of time I have throughout the week.
I have never… liked not listening to music every day. I don’t like being trapped in my mind. Listening to and writing music is the escape that helps me.
It might surprise people to learn that… ‘Glass Heart’ was written two years ago. Due to the pandemic, we decided to hold off on the release to give the song the recognition it deserves, hopefully.
