Getting To Know goodthankyou

goodthankyou’s new single and debut album recently landed. We asked him to tell us about himself:

I am… Jason John Leigh, most known as the frontman of Melbourne’s favourite cult party band The Stiffys, now known as a guy who locks himself in a storage unit late at night most nights to make records.

2024 has so far been… validating. My debut record THE KENNARDS SESSIONS is finally out and getting really good reviews, which is more a relief than anything as I’ve spent a long time working on it alone in the dark.

My album is… somewhat of a wild ride from start to finish. A cripplingly honest account if you really want to listen with the headphones up, or a fairly fun time if you just want to put your iPhone in a bowl. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

Home is… a storage unit in Sydney where my studio is set up, and also the storage unit in Melbourne that I share with The Stiffys. I don’t live in either of those, they’re just where I feel most at home. Storage units full of recording equipment and lukewarm beer are my version of a country club.

Right now, I’m spending too much time… checking the Spotify stats on the new record. It’s just right there on my phone, one click away. They’re bloody loving it in Chicago today.

I’ve never… sat down to properly learn a campfire acoustic song. I just get too bored and start writing something else. My biggest fear is that someone hands me a guitar at a party and I don’t know what to play. If I had a time machine I’d shout at my teenage self ‘LEARN SOME COVERS FOR GOD’S SAKE’.
