Getting To Know Civic Video

Emerging Eora/Sydney-based indie-rock outfit Civic Video have shared their new EP Making Room For Others. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… Civic Video – an indie rock band from Australia’s East Coast, smashing out lively, driven live sets, heart-wrenching melodies and soaring guitar solos.

2026 so far has been… fast. How is it almost over already? So much has happened. We hit the ground running with Woodford Folk Festival, played unforgettable shows in so many new places, racked up the frequent flyer points, welcomed our missing piece, Jandel, into the band and poured our hearts and souls into our very first EP ‘Making Room For Others’. We’ve grown, evolved, and widened our horizons all in what feels like the blink of an eye. Guess that’s what happens when you’re having fun right?

‘Making Room For Others’… is our baby in more ways than one. The journey we went on when making this EP was almost as emotional and confronting as the journey you go on when listening to the EP itself. Our baby has grown up now, and it’s gone out into the world. We are beyond proud of what we’ve made, and we think you’d like it too.

Home is… quite a spread of places for us, which ends up being pretty handy when you travel as much as we do. We’re currently scattered between Wollongong, Kiama, Penrith and Sydney, and have all become very familiar with each other’s couches.

Beyond our current homes, we’ve found a second home in the quiet, lush countryside of Moruya, where Riley grew up. It’s our go-to when we’re heading down south and need somewhere to stay. We feel at home in Zac’s attic in Cremorne, too, where we’ve crashed time and time again after late nights and big gigs.

My home is just outside Bathurst. We’re yet to play a gig out that way, but I know the band will be welcomed home to a wood fire and rolling hills as soon as we do.

We’re good at sharing in Civic Video. Sharing our homes has become another small way we look out for each other, and it’s made life on the road that little bit more comfortable.

I spend too much time… working… please listen to our music so we can finally quit our jobs and put our all into making sweet music.

I’ve never… watched School of Rock. Riley gives me shit about it constantly because, apparently, how can I be a musician and have never seen School of Rock?

At this point, though, I don’t even want to watch it. He’s made such a big deal about it, that watching it now would feel like letting him win – and I simply can’t give him that satisfaction.

It might surprise people to learn that… Civic Video is ¾ country bumpkins – all but Zac grew up on farms.
